AccessibilityThe Amerind Museum is housed in an historic building, constructed in stages beginning in the 1930s. Modifications to allow wheelchair access are difficult and expensive, but we are trying to make more areas in the museum accessible. We will do as much as we can to accommodate the needs of museum visitors with physical disabilities; please check with a museum staff member for assistance. However, we are not able to provide access to those in the heavier electric chairs, due to weight limits on our portable ramp. Unfortunately, the Art Gallery is not accessible. We now have a wheelchair accessible rest room, which is located in our picnic area. Please call if you have additional questions or comments about accessibility: 520.586.3666. Other Useful Visitor Information A scenic picnic area near the museum, with tables and rest room facilities, is available for our visitors. No barbeques or fires of any kind, please, because of the danger of grass fires. Beware of rattlesnakes during the warm months! Food and drinks: Drinking water is available in the museum, but we do not sell food or drinks. The closest place to get something to eat is the Dairy Queen, 4 miles east on Interstate 10, exit #322, at the “Thing.” However, the Triangle T Guest Ranch, 1/2 mile north of the Amerind, is sometimes open for lunch - please call them at 520.586.7533 for information. Other restaurants are available in Benson, 15 miles to the west, and Willcox, 22 miles to the east. Ask for a list of restaurants at the museum admission desk. Photography, audiotaping, and videotaping are prohibited inside the museum. You are welcome to photograph or film the grounds and building exteriors. Pets are welcome on the grounds, but please keep them confined in your vehicle or walked on a leash. For the safety of both your pet and other visitors, do not leave your dog tied up, unattended, to a vehicle, tree, or post, etc. No animals, except service dogs, are allowed in the museum buildings. Please leave your pets home during Arizona's hot summer months - temperatures soar to deadly levels in a very short time inside a closed vehicle.
