Exploring the Skies at Amerind with Bill Buckingham
Exploring the Skies at Amerind with Bill Buckingham
Saturday, November 19, 2022, 5:00 pm-7:00 pm
Experience a guided tour of the Arizona skies, find your way among the constellations of fall and early winter, and use binoculars to view deep space wonders. Guests are often surprised just how much you can view without a telescope! Learn how to identify and remember the fall and winter constellations, while learning some of the unusual mythology associated with these constellations. You will view the most distant object that the unaided eye can see. Be prepared for upcoming meteor showers and eclipses. Gain an understanding of what causes color in the sky. Several handouts will be provided, as well as warm beverages.
Participants must bring their own binoculars. Although any kind will be helpful, 7×50 or more powerful, will be best. Also, be sure to dress warmly for a possibly chilly evening outdoors. Please note, the program will only be held if the skies are anticipated to be clear this evening. A postponement of the program will occur if the program is unable to be held due to cloud cover.
Bill Buckingham has been providing educational astronomy experiences including programs, workshops, and interactive exhibits since 1982 for families and schools in a variety of museum, planetarium, and observatory settings. The price is $30 per person. The tour will be limited to 20 guests, with 8 spaces available to Amerind members at no cost. Space is limited and is on a first-come-first-served basis for both paid and free slots. Amerind members must call Annie Larkin at 520-686-1336 to reserve their free space.
