Organic Materials in Jewelry Metalsmithing with Rykelle Kemp

In this one-day workshop Rykelle Kemp will be discuss how she uses organic materials and applies it to her silversmithing pieces. You will be working hands-on with materials such as black abalone shell and mother of pearl while Rykelle shares how she has developed a way to apply metal to shell by using a “cold connection” technique. The second half of the workshop will explore the different methods of texturing metal with a rolling mill. Textured metal gives your jewelry pieces contrast, depth and can be used as your main design or the background to a more complex piece. You will play with organic materials, fabrics, found objects, and can even create your own design cutouts. You will then shape, cut out, and drill to either add to your shell designs made in the first half of the workshop or to save for a future project.

Cost: $160 for members or $185 for nonmembers (includes supplies and lunches)
