Texas Canyon Mountain Bike Race

Title Sponsor

The Amerind Museum presents the First Annual Texas Canyon Mountain Bike Ride. Here’s your chance to intimately experience this awe inspiring region that is normally closed to the public. Come out and ride a scenic course in beautiful Texas Canyon. Participation in the event enables Amerind to further its mission of fostering and promoting knowledge and understanding of the Native Peoples of the Americas through research, education, conservation, and community engagement. Thanks to our Title Sponsor, Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Cooperative for their generous support.

Here is your chance participate in a mountain bike race and still adhere to social distancing guidelines.

No congregating of any type will be permitted either before, during, or after the event. No spectators at the start, finish or on the course. Riders only!

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic and the need to adhere to CDC and local government guidelines to maintain social distancing, we will use a time trial start format to spread out riders on the course. You will be able to choose your start time during registration. Once a time slot is filled, it’s filled. No exceptions. We will allow one person to the start line at a time.*

*One registered parent will be permitted to start with a child. This is the only exception to the one rider start.

Start Time Slots

When registering, participants will be asked to select a 10 minute starting time slot based on estimated finish time.  Participants may begin their race anytime during the selected time slot.  There is a limit of 14 riders per corral for each starting time slot and they are available on a first come, first serve basis.  In order to maintain safe distancing on the race course, participants must start during their selected starting time slot.  If a particular starting time is not available it means it has reached the maximum number of participants for that time slot.  Please do not ask us to make any exceptions, because we will not.  The race course will remain open until 11:30AM.

The race starts at 6:30 a.m. Waves will go off every 10 minutes. (i.e 6:30, 6:40, 6:50, and so on). You will be sent off one rider at a time at 30 second intervals in waves of 14 riders. There will be a three and a half minute break between the waves to allow the next set of 14 riders to line up. Register early if you want to start up front.

The Race Course

The race will be held entirely within Texas Canyon on the Amerind Foundation property. We believe you will experience mountain biking at its best on a course that takes you on two 10-mile loops through spectacular Texas Canyon, an area that will only be open to the public on race day. Please remember no dogs and no headsets, in compliance with our insurance requirements—- you will really want to be “in the moment” anyway.

Aid Stations – BYOB

This is a BYOB event- bring your own bottle of hydration. You must be 100% self-sufficient. There will be no aid stations on the course.
