A Tour of the Vander Wagen Collection at Amerind

AAHS@Home in collaboration with the Amerind Museum brings you a virtual tour of one of the largest and best documented A:shiwi (Zuni) and Diné (Navajo) jewelry collections in the world. The Vander Wagen collection at the Amerind Museum includes thousands of jewelry pieces made by artisans and masters from the late 19th through 20th century. Learn stories behind some of the pieces and discover how they were made. Feast your eyes on pieces currently on exhibit and those rarely seen by the public to learn more about this magnificent collection. You will be guided by Eric Kaldahl President and CEO of Amerind who will chat with you about the collection and answer your questions. The jewelers represented in the collection pioneered a uniquely American art form that thrust Indigenous design and vision onto a global stage.
Dr. Eric J. Kaldahl (RPA) has participated in archaeological projects in east-central and southern Arizona, Nebraska, Missouri, and Illinois. He has worked for Old Pueblo Archaeology Center, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and the Tohono O’odham Nation Cultural Center and Museum, where he served as the first curator at the Himdag Ki:. Kaldahl became the Amerind’s Chief Curator in 2007 and was named President & CEO in 2020.
